One Punch Man includes several gags that add to its comedic charm. Among these, King’s "unparalleled power” stands out the most, often stealing scenes and leading to funny misunderstandings. Given the manga's over 200 chapters, many fans may wonder which characters are aware that King is not the strongest man in the world, but rather a regular, weak individual.
In One Punch Man, Saitama is the only one aware of King’s lie, though he cares little about it and remains friends with him.
While King has dropped several clues throughout the anime and manga indicating he's not a formidable fighter, those around him refuse to believe he's a fraud, helping to keep his facade intact.
King’s bluff in One Punch Man
In One Punch Man, King is widely considered the strongest man on Earth and is the S-Class Rank 5 hero. In reality, however, he is a weak and frightened man who just happened to be in the right place at the right time. King’s reputation was built because he was seen as a victim during Saitama’s battles against dangerous monsters.
However, once the protagonist left without claiming the credit for the victories, people automatically assumed King was responsible, making him very popular and wealthy. Although he wanted to reveal the truth several times, he had gone too deep into the lie to back out.
King’s true identity was finally revealed during One Punch Man’s King Arc, when Saitama forcefully entered the hero’s apartment to take a break while Genos was fighting an enemy robot outside. Suddenly, a demonic Giant Crow broke into the apartment, causing King to shiver in fear.
Saitama quickly defeated the enemy, but then realized that King’s strength and battle history were all fabricated. While King ended up admitting that he had benefited from Saitama’s deeds, the protagonist was indifferent about it. Instead, he left, saying he would come back to play video games with King.
Since then, King and Saitama have maintained a close friendship, often playing video games together. King even helped Saitama by attracting the Elder Centipede during the Monster Association Arc.
Aside from Saitama, no other hero is willing to admit that King is weak, which only makes the joke funnier. Even Genos, who is always close to Saitama, remains happily unaware and keeps believing in King’s status.
Characters like Tatsumaki, who is famously distrustful, and Child Emperor, known for his intelligence, show great respect toward the strongest man, and are no closer to uncovering his true identity.
King’s weakness nearly became evident during the Neo Heroes Saga when he went to Bang’s dojo and expressed his desire to be strong. While Bang’s disciples momentarily thought that King’s claims were fabricated, their own master simply misunderstood, believing that King wanted to reach a new level of strength rather than admit to lacking power.
