How to Train Your Dragon movies in order

How to Train Your Dragon is based partially on the British novelist Cressida Cowell's book series of the same name. The three feature films of the franchise are: How to Train Your Dragon, How to Train Your Dragon 2, and How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. Universal Pictures plans to release a live-action version of the original movie in June 2025.

The main plot centers on the exploits of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, a teenage Viking (voiced by Jay Baruchel), who is the son of Stoick the Vast, the ruler of Berk. With Toothless, a rare member of the Night Fury breed, as his flying ride and best buddy, he rapidly establishes himself as a brave dragon expert despite initially being portrayed as an awkward and underweight misfit.

How to Train Your Dragon 2 (2014)

The sequel, which is set five years after the events of the first movie, follows 20-year-old Hiccup and his friends as young adults when they run into Drago Bludvist, a maniac who wants to take over the world, and Valka, Hiccup's long-lost mother.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (2019)

The film follows 21-year-old Hiccup as he searches for a dragon utopia called the "Hidden World" and confronts the threat posed by the vicious dragon hunter Grimmel the Grisly, all the while adjusting to Toothless's new bond with a female Fury.

How to Train Your Dragon is the 15th highest-grossing animated series with nearly $1.6 billion in global revenue.
