Catherine Zeta-Jones has never been one to shy away from discussing her lifestyle, but when it came to criticism over her real estate portfolio, she stands firm. She has an estimated net worth of $150 million, as reported by Celebrity Net Worth, and a combined fortune with husband Michael Douglas that reaches $350 million. The couple’s success has translated into four homes across New York, Canada, and Spain.
Per Page Six, Catherine Zeta-Jones has dismissed the idea that the properties reflects extravagance during a conversation with The Sunday Times.
“I know it sounds very jet set, and I love to surround myself with beauty but it’s not excessive, it’s very comfortable,” she shared.
She noted that Spain has become their preferred escape in recent years, offering privacy from a world that often magnifies their every move.
“Two celebrities together make 10, it’s just the way it is. There’s two versions of the story and there’s two make-believes,” she explained.
The actress went on to describe the couple’s shared resilience:
“We don’t listen to the crap that is written about us, that’s the main thing. And we respect our space, we’re independent spirits. We are very similar; we were born on the same day, 25 years apart. We’re not afraid to be verbal, to express ourselves. I wear everything on my sleeve and so does he, which is good.”
Catherine Zeta-Jones revealed why her fashion splurges were worth it
Catherine Zeta-Jones also admitted that she had never shied away from indulging in luxury items that weren’t necessarily practical.
“I go to all the vintage stores in Paris, I buy things that you are probably never going to wear, like a gorgeous cape, just great pieces. I am loving classic Yves Saint Laurent at the moment. I get excited about evening dresses,” she shared.
For everyday clothing, however, Zeta-Jones explained that her tastes remained grounded.
“For me, a pair of jeans is a pair of jeans. Spending £200 on a white T-shirt? Nah. But when it comes to couture, beautiful beading, the artistry … I love the theatre of fashion,” she explained.
That passion had also been passed down to her daughter, Carys.
“She loves my closet, I have probably the biggest Fendi Baguette bag collection, and she’s just found more in my mum’s house. I’ve got everything from denim to pearl to sequins.” she shared.
According to Page Six, a Fendi Baguette bag could currently retail for as much as $11,500. The actress recalled that,
“Carla Fendi used to give them to me all the time, right when they were hot potatoes.”
The legacy Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas cherish the most is their family
Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas’ relationship begun in 1998 when they met at the Deauville Film Festival, where Douglas had been struck by her performance in The Mask of Zorro. He later admitted that he knew instantly he wanted to meet her, going so far as to ask his publicist to arrange an introduction.
Speaking years later at the London premiere of Wednesday Season 2, Catherine Zeta-Jones told Entertainment Tonight that she and Douglas were most proud of their children, Dylan and Carys. Douglas also has a son, Cameron, from his first marriage to Diandra Luker. According to People, she told Entertainment Tonight,
“I think that what we’ve accomplished, and I think both of us will say the same, I’m not speaking just for myself, is our children are truly wonderful.”
She added that life had entered a new stage now that their children were grown:
“The joy they bring us, and now they’ve flown the nest, the joy that we have together.”
