Superman might have set up Bizarro in its final act: Here's how

DCU's latest entry, Superman, manages to tell a cohesive story in its 2-hour and 9-minute runtime. James Gunn incorporates a wide range of storylines from comic books across decades to include Easter eggs. One of these mysterious characters in the movie is Ultraman, who is revealed to be a clone of the Man of Steel. In the comics, Ultraman is typically portrayed as the Man of Steel from Earth-3, who is evil.

Moreover, he leads the evil version of the Justice League on Earth-3, which is called "Crime Syndicate of America (CSA)". However, the 2025 summer blockbuster made some changes to the backstory of Ultraman. Instead of being an evil multiversal counterpart of the protagonist, this movie combines Ultraman's story with that of some versions of the Man of Steel's opponent, Bizarro.

Moreover, the last act of Superman sets up Ultraman's return as Bizarro as he is sucked into a blackhole.

Ultraman's fate in Superman explained

As stated before, Superman manages to beat Ultraman by throwing him into the blackhole inside the pocket dimension. Earlier in the movie, some part of the interdimensional "river," revealed to be colorful blocks, is also sucked into the blackhole. However, in both instances, we don't see what the other side of the blackhole looks like. This has many fans theorizing that James Gunn might have set up Bizarro and his world.

In the comics, Bizarro and Ultraman are two very different characters. Moreover, we can't call Bizarro a hard and fast villain. He is weird and sometimes fights the Big Blue Boy Scout — more often, he Bizarro is a pitiable character. Despite sharing limited intelligence and speech across the continuities, there are two different origin tales for Bizarro.

Sometimes, Bizarro hails from a mirror Earth where everything is in reverse. This Earth, referred to as "Htrae," is in the shape of a square. But the most common origin tale for Bizarro is that Lex Luthor cloned the Man of Steel, like he does in Superman. However, something goes wrong with his clone, and his appearance changes to the usual Bizarro appearance.

Thus, a fan theory posits that the colorful blocks being sucked into the blackhole will serve as the building blocks for the Htrae. And, as Ultraman is sucked into the blackhole, he will crash land into the square-shaped Earth. While Lex Luthor described the clone just as "dumb" as the Man of Steel, Ultraman might retain some of the hero's nobility, also making him a protector of Htrae.

However, some multiversal crisis might endanger Htrae, forcing Ultraman/Bizarro to seek the Man of Steel's help
