Sergei Kravinoff is known to be the son of crime and drug lord Nikolai Kravinoff, who brings him and his younger brother Dimitri into the business, right after their mother dies. During a mission in a jungle, Sergei and his brother encounter a wild lion which attacks them. The lion severely injures Sergei as he protects his brother.
On the brink of death, Kraven is saved by Calypso Ezili, who is a Voodoo priestess from an unnamed jungle tribe who injects the titular character with a serum made of a couple of rare herbs from her tribe. When he wakes up, Kraven discovers that he has newfound abilities including super strength, super hearing, speed, animal instinct, and many others, fit to make him the strongest hunter in the world.
