Wanting to keep her daughter, Daisy, safe, Sasha left General Hospital. Now, her portrayer, Sofia Mattsson, is speaking out on her experience and if she'd ever come back to the daytime genre.

Mattsson told TV Insider that she had no idea that her recurring role on the show would turn into a seven-year run. "[It has] gone by incredibly quickly," she said. "From the start, I’ve seen every day as a challenge and opportunity to grow as an actress, and honestly, that mindset never stopped — I feel like I learned something new every day until the end!"

While Sasha and surrogate mom Nina (Cynthia Watros) ended on a loving note, Mattsson recalls her early acrimonious days with Nina when she was played by Michelle Stafford (Phyllis, The Young and the Restless). "I loved working so much with Michelle Stafford," Mattsson recalled. "I was constantly amazed by her talent and kindness. And her being so good made me realize early on how high the bar was; it was very inspiring!"

A self-proclaimed romantic, Mattsson says she loved the love stories her character got to play. "[Sasha's] love with Brando [Corbin, Johnny Wactor] was so beautiful and pure," the actress says, "And I really feel like Sasha and Michael [Corinthos] have a unique and strong love. I’ve gotten an overwhelmingly positive response to our chemistry since Rory [Gibson] took over the role...I’m rooting for Sasha and Michael to reunite one day!"

A happy ending...for now

Is Mattsson open to taking on another part? "I’d have to see what the role was, but I’m definitely not opposed to coming back to the soap world," she said. "I think being on a soap is one of the best jobs you can have as an actress."

Mattsson is leaving the daytime drama world with fond memories and gratitude. "You guys are the best!" she says of soap opera fans. "I’m in awe of your commitment, and I’m so honored to have gotten to experience your love and support firsthand."

GH threw viewers for a twist when the show revealed last year that Sasha was the long-lost love child of Holly (Emma Samms) and Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers). The supercouple exited the canvas last year, but Sasha had lots of family support in Robert's brother, Mac (John J. York), and his wife, Felicia (Kristina Wagner).

In her final (for now) two episodes, Sasha got to interact with Robert as they made up for some lost time. Robert got to play doting granddad to Daisy as he got to know his and Holly's daughter.
