The death of General Hospital icon Tristan Rogers has hit the soap world hard, with current and former co-stars sharing memories of the late actor who touched so many lives during his four decades bringing Robert Scorpio to life.
Tristan Rogers will be missed
It was only a month ago when Rogers revealed that he had been suffering from lung cancer. The news broke the same day the actor made his penultimate GH appearance. The next day, Rogers' final scenes aired when the character welcomed his newfound daughter, Sasha, into his new home in France.
On the morning of Friday, August 15, Rogers passed away, igniting a weekend full of poignant tributes from performers and creators lucky enough to work with him through the years.
General Hospital stars pay tribute
Genie Francis, the current General Hospital star who worked with Rogers from the very beginning of his tenure in 1980, tweeted touching words:
"My heart is heavy. Goodbye, my spectacular friend. My deepest condolences to his wife Teresa, and their children. Tristan Rogers was a very bright light, as an actor and a person. I was so lucky to have known him."
John J. York, who has played Robert's brother, Mac Scorpio, since 1991, used powerful words to describe his friend:
"…frozen…timeless…legend…privileged…husband…father…grandfather…we will all see you again."
Emma Samms, who last worked with Rogers last fall when Holly and Robert walked off into the sunset, honored her late co-star:
"I'm incredibly sad to hear the news about Tristan. I loved working with him and we were both so grateful that we got the chance to do that for more than 40 years. He taught me how to be comfortable in front of the cameras and he introduced me to spontanaeity and fun even within the trials and tribulations that Robert and Holly endured. My condolences to his wife and family."
Parry Shen (Brad Cooper) had a special story about asking for Rogers' autoraph:
"I’ve only once asked for an autograph. It was from #TristanRogers signing underneath his own name that I wrote in my Charlie Brown book after seeing him on GH in 1981. Rest in peace to a legend. An Icon. My heart goes out to all who cared for him and his work."
Fellow Australian performer, Rick Springfield, who played Dr. Noah Drake on GH wrote:
"Aussies are made of tough stuff but even tough stuff has its expiration date. Our friend Tristan Rogers, a charming, self deprecating, handsome and witty bloke from the Great Southern Land went home today. Bless and keep your spirit Tristan. Cancer sucks."
Carolyn Hennesy, who worked with Rogers closely the last few years as Robert's new love interest, Diane Miller, expressed her love:
"Rest in well deserved peace, you wonderful, handsome, talented, quirky, wiley and oh-so special human. Adore you now and always, Tristan."
Former General Hospital star Sean Kanan (ex-AJ Quartermaine, now Deacon Sharpe, The Bold and the Beautiful), worked with Rogers on multiple projects through the years and expressed his condolences:
"I just learned that my friend Tristan has passed. I’m struggling to express my feelings which are raw. @michele.kanan and I have had countless adventures with Trissie Roo (my affectionate nickname for him) and his incredible wife @teresaprogers Tris and I worked together professionally on numerous projects. He was an extremely gifted actor and a kind and passionate man. His veneer was sometimes prickly and he didn’t suffer fools but he always made me laugh especially when he cracked that charming sideways grin and man did he have stories. I am going to miss my friend. Rest in peace, pal. Wishing the Rogers family love and strength during this difficult time."
Jon Lindstrom, who played Ryan Chamberlain and Kevin Collins off and on since the 1990s and now plays Joey Armstrong on Beyond the Gates, also paid tribute to Rogers:
"I know the sadness I feel at this news is shared by so many of you. #TristanRogers was one of the coolest, funniest people I ever met. Whenever we were together, which wasn’t nearly often enough, we never missed a chance to try to crack the other one up. I wish I’d had more of those chances. R.I.P."
Days of our Lives star Mary Beth Evans, who played Katherine Bell on GH and worked with Rogers on The Bay, also honored the late actor:
"Heartbroken to hear of the passing of Tristan Rogers. On The Bay, I had the privilege of playing opposite him — and what a gift that was. Tristan brought such charm, wit and depth to every scene, and it was an honor to share that screen time with him. Sending love and condolences to his family, friends and so many fans who adored him. He will be deeply missed."
