With General Hospital favorite Rena Sofer announcing that she's moving to New York City, fans are asking if that means it's the end of the road for Lois Cerullo. After all, New York is nowhere near where GH tapes out in sunny California.
Rena Sofer's General Hospital status
According to Soap Opera Digest, fans can still get a taste of their favorite Brooklyn mom as Sofer will commute across the country from New York to Los Angeles to tape scenes. What that likely means is that Lois won't have a big front burner story that finds her hiding an adoption secret, but she will make her way to Port Charles to remain a part of Brook Lynn and Gio's lives.
Sofer hails from the East Coast, having grown up in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania. She got her soap start on the New York-based show Loving in 1988, playing Rocky McKenzie.
Sofer announced her big move back east on August 4th when she posted a video of herself and husband Sanford Bookstaver getting ready for a road trip across the country. You can even hear Sofer singing a few lyrics from Billy Joel's New York State of Mind.
"We’ve been in LA for almost 35 years and now it’s time for me and @sbookstaver to go. No one better than Billy Joel to create the perfect soundtrack to our dreams!" Sofer wrote.
Lois' unfinished Port Charles business
Lois is already in New York City as the character hails from Brooklyn's Bensonhurst neighborhood, along with Sonny (Maurice Benard), Gio (Giovanni Mazza), and Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton). She just popped up in Port Charles toward the end of July when Lucy (Lynn Herring) arranged for her to ambush Brook Lynn on the Home and Heart channel. However, Lois had no idea that Brook Lynn wasn't aware of her appearance.
Brook Lynn is currently furious at her mother for never telling her that Gio Palmieri was the son she gave up for adoption at birth. In fact, Lois went behind Brook Lynn's back and placed the baby with her cousin when she told Brook Lynn the adoption had been anonymous.
Now, Brook Lynn has banished her mother back to Brooklyn and is refusing to speak to her. We expect we will see Sofer on General Hospital again sometime soon so Brook Lynn and Lois can finally make amends.
