On June 9, 2025, Doechii called out President Donald Trump for his immigration policies as she accepted the BET award for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist while revealing her reason for doing so in a cover story for British Vogue a month later. The "Anxiety" hitmaker told the magazine that she had spoken up about the political situation at the time because she wasn’t desensitised and wanted to take advantage of the Award ceremony’s live broadcast:
“I’m not that desensitised, and it felt right,” she told the publication. “I felt like I needed to use that moment.”
She added:
"They were live, so it wasn’t s–t they could do about it,”
The Florida-born artist at the BET Awards 2025 addressed the protests outside the Peacock Theatre. Whilst holding up her award, Doechii stated, addressing the audience:
"I do wanna address what’s happening outside the building. There are ruthless attacks that are creating fear and chaos in our communities in the name of law and order."
She continued:
"Trump is using military force to stop a protest. And I want y’all to consider what kind of government it appears to be when every time we exercise our democratic right to protest, the military is deployed against us.”
Doechii concluded her speech by imploring the attendees to stand together against hate and inequality.
“I say it’s hard to talk now, because I’m still learning:” Doechii explains her musical journey in a Vogue interview
For Doechii’s cover story with British Vogue, the 26-year-old revealed that she was waiting to discover the direction to take her new project following the critical success of the first one. She added that she was also looking forward to learning new things from her next musical experience:
"I know it’s gonna be a similar theme from my last project, of a real, deep vulnerability,” she says. “It’s gonna be the new lessons that I’m learning, and that’s why I say it’s hard to talk about now, because I’m still learning.”
The artist, also popular for her bold looks at fashion shows and public events, also discussed how her style plays an important role in her life. The Grammy award-winning rapper stated that fashion reflected her life on stage, adding that she currently viewed herself as a student; hence her preppy style at the Met Gala, Grammy Awards, and Fashion Week shows.
Doech ii also spoke about creating a second album, adding that she was experimenting with grunge and '90s drum sounds. She emphasised that she wanted the record to sound raw and devoid of auto tune.
