"Actually really enjoyed it": Perfect Match star Clayton looks back on his Netflix show journey

Perfect Match star Clayton appeared on The Viall Files: Reality Recap podcast on August 7, 2025. He talked about why he pursued a connection with Rachel, what happened between them, and their breakup.

Recalling his time on the Netflix show, Clayton also mentioned that he was unhappy with the edits and felt the show could have portrayed events differently. He answered various questions during his time on the podcast.

Podcast host Nick Viall asked Clayton why he pursued his ex, Rachel, to form a connection. He also asked Clayton to share about his time on the reality show.

"My experience (on the show) was great. I actually really enjoyed it. I journaled throughout the process, and when I left the show, I was super grateful to have been through it all. Unfortunately, I...I'm not too happy with the edit. But I'm not going to sit here and dodge responsibility. I just thought it went differently and thought it could have been portrayed differently," responded Clayton.

While on The Viall Podcast, Perfect Match star Clayton recalled his time with Rachel, followed by their breakup.

Fans might know that Rachel also appeared on the same podcast a few days ago. Referring to that and what she shared, host Nick Viall asked Clayton if he had watched that.

"Yeah, I did listen to what she said and I felt...I feel it's fair. I feel really any of the ridicule that I see online right now is fair," said Clayton.

Talking about his experience, Perfect Match star Clayton said he "really" enjoyed it. He talked about edits and how certain situations could have been portrayed "differently."

"Ultimately, though, you know, we understand that they only have so much time to use when they air these episodes, and so there's always missing context," he added.

Clayton was asked about his decision to pursue and couple up with Rachel, only to break up the next day. To that, he responded that seeing Rachel entering the house was a "major surprise."

"Maybe I'm naive, but I really genuinely did not expect her to walk through the door. I didn't think anybody else would be coming from Bachelor Nation."

He mentioned that he was notified that the show would follow a new concept. According to that, there would be participants from outside of Netflix. Seeing Rachel, he felt a rush of emotions.

Before pursuing her, Perfect Match's Clayton also thought about the possibility of how it might not work out. That's why he told Rachel that he wasn't promising anything.

Clayton mentioned his phone wallpaper. It said, "Everything happens for a reason." He said that people could laugh at it. But he truly believed it. He also recalled not having a strong connection with Juliette. With a couple of hours to find their match, he pursued Rachel.

Clayton admitted he was surprised by the intensity of Rachel’s emotional response to their breakup.
