A television series based on the cult classic film Clueless is currently in development at Peacock. Alicia Silverstone is set to reprise her role as the iconic Cher Horowitz, over three decades after the film’s release.

The project was announced in April this year, and Silverstone has now made her feelings known about stepping into the shoes of Cher once again after all these years. The actress, who also serves as an executive producer on the series, said in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight:

“I can’t wait to step back into Cher’s skin and her fancy designer shoes that will be gently used, of course, duh, because she’s evolved. This is 2025, she’s not wearing the new stuff unless it’s sustainable or vegan. We’ll have to see how far we can go with that.”

During the interview, Alicia Silverstone also talked about how the production team did not want to mess up the Clueless franchise, which has earned global fame. She said the writers and producers are trying their best to recreate the magic of the original film:

“I never thought that, that was something that I would ever do because I wouldn’t wanna mess up this thing that we all love so much. We will do our very best to honor the original movie that we love and also bring something new to it. That’s the goal, and I believe we will execute that goal.”

Further talking about the progress of the project, Silverstone revealed the current status of the Peacock series. She said:

“It’s very early stages. I’m obviously excited.”

Written and directed by Amy Heckerling, Clueless was released in 1995 and revolved around Cher, a popular and rich high school girl who went to great lengths to do some good deeds, or at least the deeds that she thought were good, like giving her friend a makeover and sparking connections between her teachers.

Loosely based on Jane Austen's 1815 novel Emma, the film became a massive success and achieved a cult following over the years. It led to an eponymous spin-off TV series which aired three seasons on ABC and UPN between 1996 and 199.

Heckerling is attached to the Peacock reboot series as an executive producer. The writers include Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, and Freakier Friday writer Jordan Weiss. Robert Lawrence also serves as an executive producer on the series. Silverstone is currently the only confirmed cast member in the planned TV show. Peacock has yet to announce a release date for the Clueless reboot.

The original 1995 movie also starred Paul Rudd as Josh Lucas, Jeremy Sisto as Elton Tiscia, Stacey Dash as Dionne Davenport, Dan Hedaya as Melvin "Mel" Horowitz, Brittany Murphy as Tai Frasier, Breckin Meyer as Travis Birkenstock, Wallace Shawn as Mr. Wendell Hall, Justin Walker as Christian Stovitz, Twink Caplan as Miss Toby Geist, and Julie Brown as Coach Millie Stoeger.
