Miss Governor Season 2 is the big question on the minds of fans right now. The Tyler Perry show closed its first season on Netflix with many loose ends, and star Jade Novah has been vocal online about wanting a Season 2.

While the show has not yet been renewed, discussions about its future are already in full swing, and there are already signs that the story might not be over just yet.

Furthermore, actor Jade Novah's comment to a fan in hopes for a Miss Governor Season 2 on Instagram fules the speculation further.

What happened in Season 1

The first season of Miss Governor introduced Antoinette Dunkerson, played by Terri J. Vaughn, as the state's first Black lieutenant governor. Thrown into the messy world of politics, Antoinette had to figure out the dismissive Governor Harper, manage her struggles, and deal with constant scrutiny.

The second half of Season 1, which dropped as Part 2, moved the stakes even higher. With Harper in the hospital, Antoinette unexpectedly stepped into the governor's chair, supported by her family and friends, though constantly sabotaged by Jed and his allies.

The Season 1 finale leaned heavily into comedy through a dramatic State Senate hearing. Every character, from Shamika and Basil to Pamela and Kelly, had their moment in the spotlight.

It was during this scene that Antoinette's affair with her bodyguard, Michael, nicknamed "Merman," came to light. This storyline didn't just bring out a few laughs, but it also underlined the broader message about double standards in politics. As Henry cleverly pointed out, Antoinette was judged far more harshly than the white men who had once held the same office.

By the end of Part 2, Harper was dragged back into power, setting Antoinette aside once again. That unresolved dynamic left fans eager for more, with so many personal and political relationships still in play. It's no wonder viewers are already asking for Miss Governor Season 2, as the characters have more left to tell.

What Jade Novah said about Miss Governor Season 2 and what could hold it back?

Even though Netflix has not confirmed another installment, cast members are already asking for it. Jade Novah, who plays Shamika, Antoinette's cousin and campaign assistant, is the one who made her feelings clear on social media.

In response to a fan's Instagram comment, Novah openly admitted to wanting a return, commenting about seeing Miss Governor Season 2 happen.

Her reply also revealed something else: the show has not been officially renewed.

That hasn't stopped speculation, though. Some fans believe the series' complicated title change might affect its chances. Initially released in May 2025 as She the People, the sitcom was renamed Miss Governor after a lawsuit was filed.

Aimee Allison, founder of the political group She the People, sued Netflix, Tyler Vision LLC, and others for trademark infringement. In court documents, Allison's representatives noted;

"The series echoes many of the same themes regarding Black women's experiences in politics that Ms. Allison addresses through her activism under the SHE THE PEOPLE mark, albeit in a slightly different format."

Aside from legal drama, viewership numbers could also play a role. Part 1 landed in Netflix's U.S. Top 10 for eleven days, climbing as high as second place, but slipped down in the following week. While respectable, these numbers weren't blockbuster level.

Still, Tyler Perry's track record with Netflix is strong, and with the buzz created by Novah and fans, there's a real chance that Miss Governor Season 2 could be announced once the dust around the lawsuit settles.

At this point, Netflix hasn't said yes to Miss Governor Season 2, but the demand is clear and loud.

With Jade Novah championing a return and Tyler Perry's influence backing the project, the series still has hope. The storylines left open in the finale make it feel unfinished, and fans want closure.

Whether Netflix renews it soon or later, the conversation around the show isn't going quiet.
