Mindhunter: How did Bill and Holden come across each other? Details explored

With only two seasons, Mindhunter is still regarded as one of the best thriller shows on Netflix. It tells the story of how Bill and Holden came together to understand the minds behind horrific crimes across America. From the beginning of the series, it is evident that Holden is curious and wants to understand the psychological aspects and the mind of a criminal so that he can prevent any kind of human loss.

In the premiere episode of Mindhunter Season 1, he even returns to college to understand more about criminology. But the real change happens when he finally meets Bill Tench, who approaches him in the cafeteria. He asks him to have a smoke, which Holden refuses. Even this simple exchange proves that the relationship between the two would be growing with the viewers.

Tench asks about him going back to college, and also teases him about being put into recruitment by Robert Shepard, the assistant director of the FBI Academy. Holden tries to put it as just being useful while also trying to learn.

Later, Tench calls him a "Blue Flamer," one who is too enthusiastic to do good, and advises him to take it slow. Holden confesses that he wants to become a better instructor, finding new ways to teach the future agents. Bill then asks him to join him during his travels to different cities, where he gives lectures to police officers and shares information about what the FBI knows. In exchange, he also comes across new information himself.

It doesn’t take much time for Holden’s curious mind to take up on that offer, as we see him accompanying Tench in his next quest to the city of Iowa.
