Noah Wyle's Dr. Robby and his impressive medical crew are about to arrive for their second shift in HBO Max's The Pitt Season 2, which is slated for an early 2026 release. The sophomore season of this hit Emmy-nominated medical drama will take place on the Fourth of July weekend, featuring another extreme shift at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center's emergency room.

Recently, the creative team and stars of the show attended the HBO Emmy Nominees celebration, where actress Katherine LaNasa teased a gruesome scene in The Pitt Season 2 in an interview with Variety. LaNasa, another returning cast for Season 2, plays the character of ER in-charge nurse Dana Evans and also earned an Emmy nom for the series premiere.

Talking about the upcoming scene, Katherine LaNasa teased:

“It’s something horrible. It’s something really gross. Sometimes they have stuff that is so gross.”

Filming for The Pitt Season 2 began in June on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, California.

More on this in our story.

The Pitt Season 2 to feature a gruesome scene with Katherine LaNasa's Dana Evans

Teasing that The Pitt Season 2 is gearing up to increase the level of tension and action, LaNasa discussed a gruesome scene in Episode 2 with Variety:

“There was something I did already [for Season 2] and I told the producer that I think I needed some jewelry for it. Like he needed to give me some diamonds. You’ll see. It’s in episode 2. It’s disgusting.”

Revealing how she prepares for such challenging scenes, the actress added:

“I got outside my body when it’s happening. I prepare myself to just go outside my body when it happens.”

While the details about this upcoming scene were not revealed entirely, LaNasa's comments hint that The Pitt Season 2 will continue to expand and increase the challenges of medical professionals in their day-to-day lives. The medical drama was hailed as an accurate and realistic representation of the profession, and it aims to expand that in Season 2.

Since Season 2 will follow Dr. Robby and his staff during the Fourth of July weekend, things are bound to get more chaotic and messier than in Season 1. Being the emergency room in-charge nurse, Dana Evans will likely attend to a host of patients and their families once again.

Katherine LaNasa's Dana Evans was also involved in a 'horrible' sequence in The Pitt Season 1

LaNasa's comments about her 'disgusting' scene in The Pitt Season 2 bring back memories from The Pitt Episode 9, where her character was involved in another horrible sequence. The fateful episode saw Dana getting punched in the face by a disgruntled male patient after he was asked to wait for his turn. This was a monumental incident for Dana's character in the show, which highlighted physical abuse against medical professionals at work.

Dana got a bruised black eye after the incident, following which LaNasa discussed this incident in another interview with Deadline:

“You know, I didn’t get to talk to them about violence too much, but I did keep talking about Kathy Garvin, who my character, in some ways, was loosely based on, and I went to Pittsburgh County, and she said, Yeah, that they all get kicked. They all get hit. They all get punched. That’s part of it, you know?”

The incident was so brutal that it shook Dana to her core, and she even contemplated leaving her job. However, LaNasa will surely return in The Pitt Season 2, and her character will be featured in more such brutal incidents that keep the medical drama grounded in reality.

Season 2 of The Pitt will premiere in January 2026.
