Netflix’s One Piece Season 2 has dropped a wonderfully subtle but meaningful Usopp Easter egg that only true fans might notice. The three distinct gadgets, resembling watches and compasses, were deliberately done to give a nod to a design from the first volume of the One Piece Colour Walk Compendium. This confirms how deeply Oda's auxiliary art inspires the show, as even subtle costume details are meticulously thought out and serve the narrative.

Therefore, this isn't just a decorative piece but a meaningful design by choice. By incorporating such nuances like this upper arm gadget of Usopp, Netflix is gaining more credibility for its depiction among the fans.

The new promotional art for Season 2 shows Jacob Romero’s Usopp wearing three colourful gadgets strapped to his upper arm. At first glance, fans thought these might be modified G-Shock watches or even early prototypes of Skypiea’s dials, but the truth is far more specific.

As mentioned, the costume design of Oda in the book featured an upper arm gadget, consisting of two watches and a compass, placed close to each other. This costume choice in the show resembles the same: Oda's accessory in the first volume of the One Piece Colour Walk Compendium.

In the original depiction, these gadgets are placed in the upper arm, a bit higher up and not exactly on the wrists, but yes, the design and colour are all the same.

One eagle-eyed Redditor shared:

“You got me busting out my Color Walk Compendium 1, but I found it. Looks like two watches and a compass.”

While other fans appreciated the fan for pointing this out. The fan also shared a photograph showcasing the animated character from the book wearing something very similar.

This isn’t an isolated Easter egg; Netflix’s One Piece is brimming

Episode 1 of the show introduces several characters earlier than their original timings in the manga. Oufit designs follow the original depiction of the character's style in the manga. Props like Luffy’s wanted poster or Dragon’s newspaper cameo echo the manga with surgical precision. Therefore, with such detailed representation, Netflix is just winning over the hearts of the fans.

Usopp’s gadget detail is significant because he is often overshadowed in the anime, but here, the costume department is actively spotlighting his inventive, gadget-loving nature. It is a nod that rewards dedicated fans while also enriching the world-building for casual viewers.

One Piece season 2 is expected to arrive in early 2026 and will continue mining Oda's library for more visual authenticity and find more material for deep-cut references. This is something various other live-action anime fail to do.
