Revival Season 1 Episode 9, titled Mother of Babylon takes the audience to the dreaded revival detention center, where Em is now a caged resident. Em is struggling with her mental health as she drowns in her guilt associated with her mother’s death. Not to forget that she is also receiving the painful ‘treatment’.

With Wayne and Dana Cypress getting ready to rescue the revivers, secrets come to light that leave everyone shocked and looking for answers.

Em finds herself caged in Revival, Season 1, Episode 9

The Revival episode starts with Ibrahim waking up in Blaine’s property, tied to a chair. Blaine wants to know about the Revival Day, and he thinks Ibrahim has answers. Blaine tells Ibrahim about witnessing a bright light from the woods after seeing Em on the bridge. He also tells him that his ‘angel’ has gone. But their conversation is cut short when Dana enters and rescues Ibrahim. When Dana realizes that Em is not present with them, she is left confused.

In the last episode, Em was betrayed by Rhodey, who, as we come to learn, was in cahoots with General Cale to bring Em. The young Cypress will have an extreme reaction to the treatments, but that does not stop the General from injecting her with a heavy dose of the drug capable of weakening revivers. For Cale, it is a simple tactic to keep the revivers from having any kind of power in Wausau.

Em’s mental health starts to deteriorate

But for poor Em, the whole situation is even worse as she gets entangled in her own delusions. In this episode of Revival, she starts seeing her dead mother, Patty, in the cell where she is locked up. With a metal collar, Em is seen struggling with guilt and trauma as her mother’s ghost haunts her. On the other hand, Blaine denies that he had anything to do with the murder of Em or Rose. But Dana and Wayne are determined to find out Blaine’s involvement in it all.

To Em's surprise, Rhodey pays her a visit in the cell and apologizes for what he did to her. He informs her that Cale had threatened him, and he was left with no choice. But Em is in no mood to forgive him. She attacks Rhodey, but since he is also a Reviver, he does not die. Em is left heartbroken by herself after Rhodey leaves.

Nithiya comes to Em's cell to check on her and observes her struggling with guilt revolving around her mother’s death. She reveals that after Dana got embroiled in a bar fight, they were unable to reach Wayne. Therefore, Em and Patty had driven to the bar but met with an accident on the way. Em feels guilty for having been responsible for the incident that killed her mother.

Suddenly, an armed security guard enters the cell to take Nithiya, but Em overpowers him and turns the weapon on him. Nithiya asks her to stand down and pleads that if she kills him, it would only make it worse for her mental state. Em stops herself and realizes that sharing her guilt helped her in some way, as the ghost of Patty is no longer around.

The revivers are set to move to a new location

Dana investigates through Blaine’s property to find more clues and discovers his plan to send his people to raid the facility with the motive to kill the revivers. They also find footage of the ‘angel’ killing Wanda. But since Ibrahim had a different experience and insists that the creature was, in fact, kind, leaving Dana and others puzzled about the truth behind the mystical being.

Meanwhile, the episode of Revival also brings us to Mayor Ken Dillisch, whose wife, Diane, informs him about the constant screams she hears in the detention center. She suspects that they are being experimented on. Ken comforts Diane, promising her safety. He also reveals that he had helped them find Em because it was the only option left.

Diane also informs Ken that they were planning to relocate the revivers to an unknown place. The information alarms him as he is certain that he will be unable to receive updates about the revivers if they are transferred from the current center. Regardless of his discomfort, Ken reaches out to Wayne to tell him about the new development. They learn that the revivers will be taken in trucks to the railroad, where they will be transported to the secret location.

The episode of Revival then becomes a fight against time as people come together to help the revivers escape the unforeseen fate that awaits them. Ibrahim aids Dana and others in the efforts. He checks in with Dr. Carla Morel at the center, who is also distraught by the way revivers are being mistreated. Ibrahim gives Morel bottled water he got from the creek that has the ability to heal the revivers.

But the escape plan is not that simple, after all, they are up against the military. They need to come up with a plan that does not trace it back to them. Wayne proposes to use explosives so they would assume Blaine is responsible for the situation. Morel informs Rhodey that people were coming to rescue the revivers.

Revivers are freed from the center in Revival Season 1 Episode 9

When the explosives go off, things turn chaotic. While the soldiers get ready to transfer the revivers, they are attacked back. Unknown to them, the revivers have been injected with the water, which had helped them heal from the lethal drug that had initially weakened them.

Towards the climax of Revival Season 1 Episode 9, the revivers are set free, but Em is nowhere to be found, which concerns Wayne and Dana. Ken does nothing to help them after Diane is released.

Wayne and Ken have a heated argument. But what is the reason for their conflict? We learn that the night Patty died, Wayne was with Diane. Wayne had ignored Patty’s call, and later she got into the accident. The revelation leaves Dana dejected, who also blames herself for her mother’s death.

But the whereabouts of Em become the point of concern towards the end of the episode of Revival. Blaine uses one of his young recruits to kidnap Em and bring her to church. He declares that Em is the ‘Mother of Babylon’ and the revivals happened because she opened the gates of hell. He now wants to send her ‘back’.
