In the Amazon series’ Sneaky Pete Season 3 finale titled ‘The Brooklyn Potash,’ we see that Marius’ carefully built new life is slipping away. The lies about his shady past continue to cast a shadow over him, even though he’s trying his best to escape it.
Things take a drastic turn in the Season 3 finale of Sneaky Pete when Julia is held for ransom, and Marius has to come up with an elaborate con to get the money to rescue her, with some help from the Bernhardts. Kilbane getting scammed is nothing short of perfect. Marius is an expert at carrying out cons, and this is like a walk in the park for him. However, the biggest question the audience is left with is whether the Bernhardts will discover his true identity.
It is worth noting that Sneaky Pete, co-created by Bryan Cranston and David Shore, was canceled by Amazon after Season 3 in 2019, despite receiving favorable reviews with a 96% critic rating and a 91% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The cast of the series includes Giovanni Ribisi, Marin Ireland, Margo Martindale, Peter Gerety, Libe Barer, and Shane McRae.
Sneaky Pete Season 3 ending explained
In the final episode of Sneaky Pete Season 3, we see Marius trying to pull off a painting con to rescue Julia, who has been captured, while also dealing with some unresolved issues with Lizzie. Julia was being held for a ransom of $4 million, and Marius had a plan, sort of, to get the money. He plans to use three stolen wine bottles and pays Hickey to forge the painting.
Marius will meet Kilbane, who shows him the diamonds worth 4 million for the painting. At the antique show, Marius unexpectedly encounters Lizzie. And the audience finally gets a brief explanation of what really happened between the two.
It is understood that years ago, during a scam that was not going as planned, Marius decided to leave Lizzie, who wanted to salvage the situation. However, Lizzie was stabbed and held it against Marius for abandoning her. Marius does express remorse for the events that occurred and explains that this is precisely why he wants to save Julia. This makes Lizzie upset, and she demands he either let Julia go or leave with her. He chooses to finish the scam instead.
In this episode of Sneaky Pete, the con takes center stage as Marius gathers the whole gang to execute their plan. Otto is acting as Sy, while Kilbane secures the diamonds in his briefcase. Kilbane intends to examine the painting at Hickey’s booth, feeling pleased to have both Sy alive and the art.
But the moment is short-lived when he sees Carly running away with the diamonds. Kilbane races after Carly but gets tackled by Taylor and Doug, who also switch the painting. Kilbane is left without Sly and a fake painting.
Meanwhile, Lizzie has gone rogue. Her annoyance that Marius chose Julia drives her to take control of the van while Julia is restrained. Audrey also tells him that the police are on their way to get him. However, Marius’s main focus is rescuing Julia. He finds Lizzie, who agrees to release Julia in exchange for the diamonds. He agrees, and Julia is rescued.
Marius managed to swipe diamonds, which he gives to Julia to help her find a lawyer and support Carly’s future. One of the key moments, however, was Marius finally being ready to share his true identity. He even tells them that he wants to admit something about his past. While Audrey knew it, Otto refuses to listen and instead assures him that no matter what happened, it is in the past and he is now part of their family.
The Amazon series 'Sneaky Pete' was canceled after three seasons. Therefore, some questions will forever remain unanswered in the minds of the audience. However, one thing fans can take away is that the series did conclude on a more optimistic note. Marius has found his place, and the future doesn’t look completely bleak.
Sneaky Pete is available on Amazon Prime Video.
