Netflix’s new Argentine series, In the Mud, has hooked the audience to the television screens. The show revolves around five inmates in the La Quebrada prison who have committed different crimes.
Inside the jail, they not only face harsh conditions, but also dangerous individuals who are after their lives. They rely on each other for support and form an unbreakable bond.
Most of the narrative of the series takes place in the prison. Considering the authenticity of the visuals, fans have been wondering where In the Mud was filmed. Here is all about the filming locations of the Netflix series.
In the Mud filming locations
The filming of In the Mud took place in the following two cities of Argentina:
1. San Martín
San Martín, a town near the capital city of Buenos Aires, served as a major filming location for the series. The scenes involving the La Quebrada women’s prison were shot at an abandoned tobacco factory in the town. The production crew completely transformed the building into a replica of a prison, and its weary walls and industrial design made the place look realistic.
Instead of creating a fake set in a studio, the team converted the factory into a space that looked exactly like a working prison. The scenes shot at the place became the most important moments in the show. They gave the audience a feeling of being trapped inside the same closed space as the characters.
San Martín has previously served as a filming location for shows and films like The Eternaut, Nine Queens, and Man Facing Southeast. The town is known for its industry and food processing units.
2. Buenos Aires
In the Mud was also filmed in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, and the area around it. The region is a hub for the Argentine film industry, so it made sense for the crew to carry out filming there. Although most of the narrative takes place inside the prison, the few outdoor sequences were shot in the city.
Buenos Aires is famous for its mix of old European-style buildings and modern architecture, which gives the city a unique identity. The region has previously hosted the filming of Children of Men, Wild Tales, The Secret in Their Eyes, Community Squad, Senna, The Two Popes, and The Motorcycle Diaries.
