Cillian Murphy's Thomas Shelby from Peaky Blinders is one of the most iconic characters to ever result from a television series. His character is set to return for one final time with a sequel feature film on Netflix titled The Immortal Man.
Creator Steven Knight has described the film as a fitting end to the Peaky story, sparking conversations among the fans regarding the conclusion of the franchise after the feature film.
The Immortal Man might be a fitting end to this part of the Shelby story; however, there is a big chance that the franchise isn't concluding with this feature film and might have future projects on the horizon.
Here's what we know about the future of the Peaky Blinders franchise after The Immortal Man.
Will the Peaky Blinders franchise come to an end after The Immortal Man
Peaky Blinders ran for six glorious seasons from 2013 to 2022, following the Shelby family, and is now set to return for a feature-length film, The Immortal Man. The film will place Cillian Murphy's Tommy Shelby in the Second World War, with Tom Harper as director and Knight as the scriptwriter.
In an unprecedented move for Netflix, the film is set to receive a theatrical release instead of the usual streamer release, as confirmed by Knight in a conversation with The Playlist.
"But I do want this to be in cinemas so that people can sit there together and watch this thing happen."
When asked for confirmation, he added:
"Yes. Well, I’ve just made that announcement. So, yes"
In a previous conversation, Knight referred to The Immortal Man as a fitting end to the Peaky story; however, he later explained that this was an end to one of the stories in the franchise, and he had a lot more stories to tell, as long as fans wanted it:
"It’s like, ‘Hey, we got plenty more [story] if we want to tell it. We can just keep going; just keep going through time. As long as there’s an appetite for it and people want it and I’ve got stories to tell, then why not?"
He also went on to confirm the existence of a future project, without divulging any details about it, in a conversation with The Mirror:
"Some things just seem to have momentum and luck, and they stick, and everyone working on them feels that. What is coming next? It’s to be announced. But it’s not the end."
So, even though Tommy Shelby's story might be receiving a fitting conclusion with Steven Knight, there are a lot more stories that he has left to tell from the Peaky Blinders franchise.
For now, though, we have the theatrical release of The Immortal Man to look forward to, and as Knight has expressed, we're in for a treat:
"The stuff that I’m watching – the rushes, the assemblies – no one will be disappointed. It is quite an incredible thing. It’s a very fitting way to end this part of the ‘Peaky’ story."
