What happened on Beyond the Gates
On Beyond the Gates, Anita received a visit from The Young and the Restless' Devon Winters, a music producer who wanted Anita to record jazz for his label. La Dupree suggested that he give her fellow Articulettes, Sharon and Tracy, the deal instead – though Anita agreed to appear as a featured artist on their album. Tracy and Sharon made one more attempt to have Anita join them on tour, but Anita felt her family needed her; however, she was glad that, because of going public about how Barbara had formed the group, they could finally put the ugliness of their musical past behind them.
Andre let an amazingly understanding Dani go in favor of pursuing a long-term relationship with Ashley, only for Ashley to tell him she didn't want to date him after all. Nicole served Ted with divorce papers and went out with Ted's associate, Carlton Fitzgerald. Later, the Richardsons separately threw parties at the same time: Ted drowned his sorrows with Andre while Nicole danced and told Dani and Vanessa that she was happy to be moving on. Ashley was ready to stand on her own until a bicycle accident left Derek paralyzed; Ashley told him she loved him and that she had never gotten over him.
A salsa lesson with Tomás that went badly at first but ended with him oozing confidence inspired Kat to take him to bed again – but she found herself as underwhelmed by their lovemaking as she had been when she lost her virginity to him. While Kat wondered if she was broken, Eva seemed to understand Tomás more than Kat did. Chelsea put her foot down when Allison tried using a business opportunity to insert herself into Chelsea's life; Madison deemed Allison unhinged when Allison bounced between telling Madison how awful Chelsea was and telling Chelsea they were meant to be together. Hayley dismissed Dani's condolences and apologized regarding her miscarriage and had an exam to find out when she could attempt conceiving again; Bill and Hayley were told they needed to wait three months.
Leslie got into an argument with Eva when she ignored a letter stating she was owed an inheritance; Eva refused to secure more money from Ted for Leslie and called her mother entitled. A woman named Peaches, who had raised Leslie, came for a visit; because she was dying, she wanted to tell Leslie the truth about her real mother. Leslie was stunned to learn that she was the daughter of Barbara Mitchell, the deceased founding member of The Articulettes...and that she truly was due a fortune.
Naomi presented Regina with the birth certificates of June's children, Ron and Cecile, then fetched June when she read a letter from June that Regina had kept. Once June saw her own note, she had total recall about having had children and admitted that she had called Child Protective Services on herself because the then drug addict knew she couldn't give the kids the life they deserved. Jacob found out that Cecile and Ron had been adopted by Martin and Smitty and taken the names Samantha and Tyrell.
Trending Samantha faked a text from Smitty to Martin so that her estranged dads would spend time together. The Richardson-Smiths ended up enjoying a game night once they got past arguing, but Smitty didn't want the frustrated Martin's appearance to give the teens false hope about a reconciliation. The Hawthornes informed Smitty and Martin that they had stumbled upon the biological mother of Tyrell and Samantha, who decided they wanted to see her. June and the Richardson-Smiths had an awkward meeting, but June was hopeful that she could be a part of their family – and Martin pressed Smitty to let him move back in for the sake of the kids.
