What happened on Beyond the Gates
On Beyond the Gates, Martin began dealing with the psychological and emotional impact of the hate crime and its associated violence, though he seemed more concerned with getting Smitty back. Kat and Tyrell separately wanted more information about the Richardson-Smith breakup, but were each referred to Martin.
Ashley expressed jealousy regarding both Andre and Shanice. Andre recreated Paris in his apartment and encouraged the regimented Ashley to listen to her desires, yet she retreated when their date got romantic. Vernon pressed Andre to “make it good” with Dani. Derek wanted Ashley back, but she wanted to move forward, not backward.
Kat could only tell Tomás that their virginity-losing lovemaking had been “lovely” and admitted to Chelsea that, having finally partaken, she didn't see what the big deal was about sex. Eva was hurt to hear that Tomás was in love after being intimate with Kat.
Naomi tracked down June's sister, Regina, who reported that June was an addict who had abandoned her two children. June denied that she'd ever had kids. Vanessa intervened when Joey manhandled a drunken Doug for insulting her and threatening to go to the police about him; Doug later agreed to stop antagonizing Joey but continued to give Vanessa the cold shoulder. Tyrell ran into Jessica and confessed that he'd only freaked out on her because he couldn't believe she liked him – however, Jessica wasn't ready to forgive and forget.
A newly unemployed Leslie tried and failed to get a loan out of Ted, then tasked Eva with borrowing the money from him instead. Eva was honest with her dad about the reason for her request and informed her mom that the ask was a one-time only event. Kat deflected when Ted confronted her about sabotaging Eva at his clinic.
The Articulettes argued again when the talent agent who arranged their concert wanted Anita to include a solo number. Dani convinced a reluctant Nicole to attend the show, then teamed with her to get the separated Martin and Smitty to do the same. Leslie, a lifelong fan of the Articulettes, stole Eva's ticket; Ted gave Eva his so she could be sure Leslie didn't cause a scene.
Trending Smitty realized that Naomi knew about “Kenneth” ending up dead after blackmailing Martin, and concurred that Jacob couldn't find out. Carlton all but said he was interested in Nicole. The Articulettes hit the stage, with Anita cutting in to make a special presentation created by Andre.
