Disney’s live-action Snow White starring Gal Gadot was one of the studio’s most anticipated films this year. The movie featured Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. With its big budget and high-profile cast, it was widely believed the film would be a success. However, when it hit the theaters, the film struggled at the box office.

In a new interview with Israeli television, Gal Gadot shared her view on why the film failed. She believes politics played a major role in how the movie was received. Gadot claims the fate of Snow White became less about the film itself and more about outside pressure.

Gal Gadot says she enjoyed making the movie and was confident the audience would respond positively. However, she claims that after the October 7 Hamas attack of 2023, the conversation around the film shifted. According to a TMZ report published August 16, 2025,

GG says celebs suddenly came under pressure to denounce Israel -- her home country for whom she served in the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) ... and, she's basically implying the movie was doomed once she didn't.

The outlet reports that the Israeli actress feels once she did not condemn her home country, some people began to turn against her and the film. She argues that politics became “the poison apple” for Snow White. Gadot says the film got caught in debates. Incidentally, Gadot's co-star Rachel Zegler also faced political controversy after she expressed support for Palestine.

Critics have panned Snow White on creative grounds

Although Gadot has blamed politics for the film not being well received, reviews on Rotten Tomatoes suggest that the film fell short on creative grounds. The film managed a 38% rating from 271 critics, and the site's consensus is:

"Snow White is hardly a grumpy time at the movies thanks to Rachel Zegler's luminous star turn, but its bashful treatment of the source material along with some dopey stylistic choices won't make everyone happy, either."

There was also criticism over creative choices made in the movie. Disney has been accused by some conservatives of promoting what they termed as “woke” messages. Other people criticized the studio for using CGI for the little people rather than casting actual actors as the dwarves.

The audience score for the film on Rotten Tomatoes, however, is around 70%, indicating that most moviegoers enjoyed it.
