The Winning Try Episode 7-8 recap: I-ji lies for Ga-ram

After Ga-ram collapsed in front of I-ji in the previous episode of The Winning Try, she took him to the hospital, where she learned that he was suffering from Myasthenia Gravis. She connects the dots and even asks him to confirm if this was the reason he took the drugs before his match, and also disappeared three years ago.

This breaks her heart as she realises that she had been hating him for all the wrong reasons. Later, she also lies to the Vice Principal and other teachers that they both went to the hospital due to her having yips, a condition where she suddenly lost her motor skills and is not able to shoot. This results in Coach Nak-gyeon banning her from being around the players or the shooting range.

However, this also results in their relationship improving, as Ga-ram then makes it his responsibility to help her.

The Winning Try Episode 7-8 recap: The coaches help their players in the President’s Cup

While I-ji and Ga-ram’s relationship improves, a new love triangle has been forming in Episodes 7 and 8 of The Winning Try. Seong-jun has been having more conversations with U-jin after she helped them during Ung’s selection tests. Not just Seong-jun, but Ung also appears to be giving U-jin attention and getting better responses than Seong-jun.

As the players get ready for their respective matches, the coaches take care of every little detail to make sure they perform well. For instance, I-ji brings new shoes for U-jin after discovering that she had been having trouble with her performances right after changing her shoes.

Elsewhere, the Hangyang rugby team prepares for their match against Daesang High, featuring their former team member, Tae-pung. The team gave a solid performance and did not let Daesang win so easily. The only thing that resulted in their loss was Ung’s inability to tackle, which the team tried to solve in Episode 8 of The Winning Try.

The Winning Try Episode 7-8 recap: Ung overcomes his trauma

In Episode 8 of The Winning Try, the rugby team tries to help Ung get over his fear of tackling with several elaborate and funny plans. Later, a post goes viral about Ung being a bully by one of his former classmates. However, a flashback reveals that Ung was the victim in the case, and while defending himself, he accidentally injured his bully. Since then, he fears hurting someone else if he tackles.

But without any evidence, it cannot be proved who was the bully and who wasn’t. Therefore, the rugby team goes to meet Ung’s bully, and Seong-jun asks him to take the post down. However, the bully doesn’t give in easily and asks Seong-jun to kneel in front of him in exchange for deleting the post. Even after his teammates protested, he still knelt in front of the bully and later made him delete the post.

Ga-ram dislikes the team attempting to solve the problem independently without notifying them. Later, he takes them to the field and asks them to tackle him one by one, as he thinks he failed to solve the problem himself, which led to the team having to make the decision. While everyone tackles the coach, Ung fails and is asked by Ga-ram to leave the team, as without being able to tackle, he cannot become a rugby player.

Ga-ram even calls Ung’s father to take him back home. However, Ung refuses to go back as he wants to become a rugby player, and finally, after facing the threat of not being able to play rugby, he tackles his coach. Ga-ram then congratulates him for overcoming his trauma.
